Semester 4 modules (level 4)

The programme running on semester 4 allows students to pick up a number of courses according to the specializations they aim at, and to the duration of their studies (short or long studies):

Choice between 3 options or specializations:
  • The Building option is oriented towards structural works (Design Offices, Methods Development Offices, Building Site Organization).
  • The Building Services and Environment option aims to satisfy the industry's requirements in terms of cost – effectiveness, energy savings, and comfort in construction (heating, air conditioning, lighting, insulation...)
  • The Public Works and Urban Planning option is oriented towards Public Works (infrastructure, networks, roads, highways engineering).

Choice between 4 career paths:

As they choose one of the 3 options, students also have to choose compulsory additional courses/modules in relation to their career prospects. Each set of additional modules is adapted to what students decide to do after they have completed their DUT.

To determine the content of their semester 4 studies, all students have to choose between 4 career paths:

  • Path 1 : IPEC - BAT (Poursuite d'Etudes Courtes avec Insertion professionnelle) = short studies and immediate integration into the world of work after the DUT, with a specialization in construction.
  • Path 2 : IPEC - MEE (Poursuite d'Etudes Courtes avec Insertion professionnelle) = short studies and immediate integration into the world of work after the DUT, with a specialization in building services.
  • Path 3 : IPEC - TPA (Poursuite d'Etudes Courtes avec Insertion professionnelle) = short studies and immediate integration into the world of work after the DUT, with a specialization in highways and public works.
  • Path 4 : PEL (Poursuite d'Etudes Longues) = long studies after the DUT preparing for BEng, MEng and Engineering Schools.

Each path offers 5 modules directly related to the students' specializations.

The combination of these two choices (a career path + an option) offers the student a relevant education closely matching the requirements of his / her future job.

** Students also have to work on cross disciplinary projects that they choose from various modules / courses : Building Site Management and Organization, Reinforced Concrete, Timber / Steel Construction, Eco-construction, Geotechnics, Environment and Building Equipment, Roads and Highways …

** When they have completed all modules / courses (semesters 1 to 4), all students carry out a twelve week work placement (internship). About 20% of students decide to undertake their placements abroad (Great Britain, Latvia, Morocco, Poland, Romania, Norway, Greece, Spain …)
